Color Play with Turquoise

March 7, 2010 · Leave a Comment

It’s rare I’ll create with gold, but after embroidering these two discs, I knew it had to be finished with gold chain.  The colors were inspired by the Art  Bead Scene Blog Turquoise Color Challenge.  They’ve teamed up with Margie Deeb and have created a challenge using the colors below.

I love these colors together and decided to create the following neck piece.

This piece does not quality for the challenge, you need to include an art bead, a bead or component made by an artist or yourself into the design.

I created another jewelry piece that was entered into the challenge.  So if you love a great challenge be sure to enter at Art Bead Scene Turquoise Challenge.  The dead line is April 1st.  I can’t wait to see all of the designs!

The winner recieves Margie Deeb’s Color Report for Bead & Jewelry Artists and a $50 gift certificate from Humblebeads.com.

As always, Happy Beading!

Hi everyone,

Have you seen this month’s issue of Step by Step Wire Jewelry April/May 2010?  I just received mine in the mail and I believe this issue will be one of my favorites with the many wonderful and unique wire designs.

I love the Eye of Horus design by Nina Lara on page 48, this one I will surely make!  It’s beautiful.   The Scroll pendant on page 43, by Phyllis Adams is another stunning design I’m sure to make too.

While your there see one of my creations featured in the Wire Works gallery on page 33, called Rusty Bangles.

Right Angle Weave

February 16, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Hello Everyone! It’s that time of the year where all my focus has been on creating entries for several of the beading competitions.  During this time, it gives me little time for other things, like keeping up my blog.  Shame on me!

Here are a couple of bracelets I’ve created using right angle weave and other weaving techiques.

Hope you enjoy and As always, Happy Beading.

The Unique Styles of Wirework

January 8, 2010 · 1 Comment

I wanted to feature an artist this week with unique and creative talent, one that had a flair for working with wire.  My choice was hard to make, but once you see Donna Spadafore’s magical creations with wire, you’ll see what draws you to these lavish works of art.

Donnas’ profile tells me, she began making jewelry as a teenager and that her style and choice of media evolved with her.  She started with seed beads and sold her work at craft fairs and other venues.  But, since she started working with wire, her designs have taken on true talent and they are stunning!

Below are a few of her works:

Donna uses mostly sterling silver and copper wire, she adds gemstones and glass beads to create her own very distinct style of art.   You can find Donna’s work for sale on her website Gailavira and be sure to visit her Blog.   Other places to find her work are her Etsy store.

She also has wonderful tutorials, many are free and I used her tutorial to create the cross pendant below.  Find this tutorial on JewelryLessons.com.

I want to give you a challenge.

The challenge is this; try something new this year of 2010 and create with a different media, use a different color you normally wouldn’t, or just try to create something you never have before.  Then send me an email and let me know what you did.  You could be my next featured artist.

As always, Happy Beading!
